The University of Patras, Department of Nursing is based in Patras and is a part of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences. It offers a four year degree in Basic Nursing. Once a student has successfully completed his studies, 240 ECTS credits are awarded. The courses are held in Greek language.
The Nursing Department participates in the Interdepartmental Program of Postgraduate Studies (MSc) in "Rehabilitation Sciences", with specialization in Nursing, Speech Therapy and Physiotherapy, commencing in the spring semester of each academic year.
The participants are trained group by group in a specially isolated room, while the rest of the team watch them behind the one-way mirror, along with the instructors. The whole simulation is recorded in real time by specialized software and is followed by analysis of the procedure, jointly by instructors and participants.
The module ‘Research Methodology’ is offered to students of the 5th semester. Under the new Curriculum, this module is complemented with lab practice in groups. The lab provides 20 PC workplaces connected to the intranet with access to scientific electronic databases.
The Department provides seven nursing labs, with a maximum capacity of 35 students each. Four out of seven labs have five-level sitting arrangements. They are all equipped in a way suitable to simulate bedside nursing care, enabling the potential practice of all nursing skills.
The Department provides five lecture halls, with their capacity ranging from 50 to 100 seats. All lecture halls are equipped with roof projectors, projector screens and venetian blinds, and they take full advantage of natural light potential. They are designed in the best way so as to comply with appropriate safety regulations.
