Welcome to Department of Nursing

The University of Patras, Department of Nursing is committed to preparing highly educated and competent nurses as to offer patients high quality nursing care in various health care settings. This is achieved by introducing students to the dynamic nature of Nursing, applied in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Healthcare.

The theoretical, laboratory and clinical education courses offered encourage student’s development of knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable graduates to evaluate patient’s healthcare needs, apply sufficient evidence-based care and evaluate care outcomes. For the duration of the course emphasis is also placed on students use of analytical, critical and reflective thinking skills, as well as principles and methods of nursing research.

Graduates of this Department will be able to provide safe, high-quality nursing care in various healthcare settings and promote the nursing profession through the use of evidence-based practice. Graduates will be competent in participating in nursing education, research and administration.

Course duration

The department offers a 4-year undergraduate Nursing degree including 44 compulsory and 14 elective courses. During the duration of 8 semesters students must successfully complete 44 courses in total (corresponding to 240 credits). The total number of courses include 39 compulsory courses (corresponding to 230 credits) and 5 elective courses (corresponding to 10 credits, from 3rd to 7th semester).
