COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

The course is designed to provide students with the necessary
knowledge in communication, an important tool for
interpersonal relations. Communication skills such as, active
listening, are essential in communicating with patients, families
and colleagues. Effective communication provides patients with
quality nursing care.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completing the course, students will be able to:

• define terms related to communication

• comprehend the benefits of communication

• comprehend the concept of active listening

• establish nurse-patient relationship

• demonstrate communication skills necessary for patient education

• demonstrate communication skills used when approaching patients and their family

• identify and overcome communication barriers

• apply communication skills in nursing
