Learning Outcomes
Upon completing the course, students will be able to:
• define the prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells characteristics as well as acellular life forms
• comprehend basic structures of biomolecules (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids)
• comprehend DNA replication process and define the mechanisms for correcting DNA errors
• define the levels of regulation in gene expression, the role of the promoter, the enhancer, as well
as transcription factors and non-coding RNAs
• describe processes of mRNAs and how they affect the complexity of the produced proteins
• identify the genetic code characteristics
• describe the eukaryotic cell’s organs (Endoplasmic network, Golgi system, Lysosomes,
Mitochondria, Chloroplasts)
• describe the basic components of the cell membrane
• identify the types of cellular form of communication
• describe the components of the cytoskeleton and their functions
• describe the phases and main events of mitosis and reduction, as well as their differences
• define the phases, main events and control points in the cell cycle
