Upon completing the course, students will be able to:

• identify the cultural, legal and ethical factors that affect nursing clinical training and education

• understand the concepts of health and illness

• comprehend the importance of vital signs as prognostic indicators of disease progression

• understand the concepts of aseptic techniques, sterilization and disinfection

• evaluate (holistically) the needs and problems of the individual and his/her family

• apply the nursing process

• practice effective communication skills to obtain adequate and correct information

• use critical thinking in making clinical decisions
